The AmeriCorps member will assist LawNY's Consumer Law Project in advancing economic justice by: (1) conducting initial client intake interviews and identifying legal problems; (2) conducting investigations into clients cases, under attorney supervision; (3) assisting in the preparation of cases, including conducting legal research and preparing drafts of legal documents and memorandum; (4) under the supervision of an attorney, providing advice and representation to clients in administrative proceedings and where otherwise permitted by law and ethical considerations, and; (5) conducting outreach to the community.

The direct services provided may include, but are not limited to, assisting eligible clients obtain discharges for their student loan debt, investigating potential consumer frauds claims; filing complaints with the Attorney General's office, and training community members about consumer rights.
